Arboretum programs nurture the public’s interest in land care and living in harmony with nature. We offer free guided nature walks and garden tours throughout the year. We also welcome groups who are interested in private tours on a range of topics. Explore our many opportunities below. See the events calendar for a complete list of walks, dates, and times.
Free Nature Walks
Free nature walks take place every Sunday afternoon and last one to two hours. Led by seasoned naturalists, these walks are a great way to learn about the land, plants, animals, fungi, phenology, and ecology. If you plan to come to a walk with a group of five or more, please email us as far in advance as possible so we can accommodate the group.
Nature Hikes are geared for adults and offered several times a month. These longer walks may cover some sloping terrain.
Scenic Strolls, offered monthly, are shorter gently paced walks that explore ecological communities near the Visitor Center. Routes are wheelchair accessible when weather allows.
Monthly Night Walks start before sunset and offer an opportunity to learn more about nocturnal nature. They are scheduled around the full moon, equinox, solstice, and other astronomical events. Free advance registration is required for these walks.
Family Nature Walks, offered monthly, are one-hour walks geared for families with children elementary age and younger. Monthly Family Nature Programs include a family nature walk followed by nature-based activities. (See more programs for families.)
Outdoor walks are subject to cancellation due to the following weather conditions: 10 degrees Fahrenheit or less with a wind chill factor, a heat index above 100 degrees Fahrenheit, thunderstorms, air quality index above 200, or excessively snowy and icy conditions.
