Micah Kloppenburg (right), ecological restoration outreach coordinator
The Arboretum is pleased to welcome Micah Kloppenburg as our new ecological restoration outreach coordinator. Micah most recently worked for the Xerces Society as the statewide pollinator habitat specialist, where he supported people learning about and creating habitat for native Wisconsin pollinators.
In his role at the Arboretum, Micah coordinates our restoration work party volunteer program. This includes training and supporting our volunteer restoration team leaders who lead our Saturday morning drop-in work parties, as well as working closely with our natural resource specialists to coordinate work party locations and tasks. Micah will also support some of the Arboretum’s existing connections to campus and community groups, such as the Office of Sustainability intern program and Wisconsin Master Naturalist program. He has a master’s degree in restoration ecology from UW–Madison and brings extensive community connections and experience engaging people in land stewardship.
Micah grew up in Madison and fondly recalls many adventures in the Arboretum’s Wingra Oak Savanna. He finds it a joy to help care for a landscape where he found many early experiences in the natural world. Outside of work, Micah enjoys canoeing, dabbling in jewelry metal art, and growing as many tomatoes, onions, and garlic as he and his family can fit in their small garden.
