Jared Beck, research ecologist

During the summer, the Arboretum welcomed Dr. Jared Beck as our new research ecologist.

Jared brings a passion for plants and natural history, long-standing interests in conservation and restoration, and an insatiable curiosity about the natural world. He received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Carleton College and a PhD in botany from UW–Madison. As a graduate student, Jared was a member of the Arboretum’s first cohort of graduate Research Fellows.

Prior to joining the Arboretum, he worked at the Chicago Botanic Garden as a postdoctoral researcher studying how prescribed fire and habitat fragmentation influence prairie plant populations, plant-insect interactions, and insect communities in western Minnesota.

Jared is excited to return to UW–Madison and contribute to the Arboretum’s long legacy of ecological and conservation science. He is eager to work with students, collaborate with researchers and practitioners, and build the Arboretum’s research program.
